At the 2015 Angus Youth National Roundup, Angus Youth was fortunate enough to be able to introduce a new award thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Collins Family at Merridale Angus. The 2015 Merridale Angus Aspiring Breeder Award was awarded to Rebecca Bennett. The award gave Rebecca a registered Angus heifer. Mildred has settled into farm life with Rebecca and the two have been travelling the state together. Below is a little report Rebecca has sent the office about her time with Mildred and their success during the show season.

After the Angus Roundup in January 2015 at Wodonga I have had some of the most incredible experiences. I have taken my heifer to our local show and also many up and down the North Coast of NSW. Camden Haven Show was our local show and also our first and we received 1st place in the 9-12 month old heifer class and Champion Junior Female, as well as 1st Place Interbreed Female and Champion Interbreed Female. I was also named the Camden Haven Showgirl for 2015.

Then we went to Wingham Show where we also got 1st place in the 9-12month heifer class, Champion Junior female and 1st Place parading, qualifying for the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2015. At Wauchope Show we received 2nd place in the 9-12 month heifer class, first place 16-18 years Paraders and Grand Champion Parader. At Kempsey Show, we got 1st Place 9-12 month heifer class, Reserve Champion Junior Female, 1st place 16-17 years Paraders and Reserve Champion Parader. And then the final show for the season for us was Macksville Show. We were fortunate enough to get 1st Place 9-12 month old Angus Heifer and Reserve Champion Junior Angus Female.

Words cannot describe how thankful I am for my precious little heifer. She has brought so much more to me than just winning. I don’t know what I would do without her and I cannot imagine what I would be doing right now if I didn’t have her. Thank-you to the Collins family for giving me such an amazing experience in the form of Mildred.
