Scrotal Size EBVs
58 - Are scrotal size EBVs related to early puberty & days-to-calving in heifers
59 - What is the best age to measure scrotal size.

58 : Are Scrotal Size EBVs related to age at puberty and days to calving

Research results indicate that there is a positive genetic correlation between Scrotal Size and age puberty of heifers and bulls, ie. bulls with larger Scrotal Size EBV sire heifers that reach puberty earlier than heifers sired by bulls with lesser Scrotal size EBVs.

Some research also indicates that Days to Calving is correlated with early age at puberty.

Therefore selection for larger Scrotal Size is likely to result in younger age at puberty and shorter days to calving interval in the female herd.

59 : At what age should I measure Scrotal Size to maximise the correlation

Scrotal measurements can be recorded between 300 and 700 days of age. British breeds are best measured around 450 days of age whilst tropical breeds are best measured between 500 and 700
