TRADE DISPLAYS AT CONFERENCE
A limited number of static display sites will be available at Angus Australia’s National Conference and AGM in Albury, NSW, on April 27. The sites comprise a 3.6 x 1.8 metre booth with power and velcro acceptable walls. Price is $220 and bookings are on a first in best dressed basis for members and organizations providing services to members. Contact Kym Walls on 02 6773 4603.

1000 FEMALES FOR NARACOORTE
The 1000 commercial Angus females to be offered at Angus Feature Female Sale at Naracoorte, SA, at 12 noon on Thursday December 17 are account 25 Angus Australia members using identified registered bulls. Angus Australia is providing copies of The Story of Angus in Australia for the best precented pen in three categories, cows and calves, joined females and unjoined heifers. More….

130 FOR ROUNDUP
Over 130 participants from throughout the nation have entered for the Landfall Angus Youth Roundup at Wodonga Exhibition Centre on January 14 to 17. Organizers were a little concerned a week before entries closed but as usual, there was a last minute rush to provide the maximum numbers that can be accommodated at this highly popular event. As well, good entries have been received for the Te Mania Heifer, New Zealand Exchange and Angus Youth Ambassador awards with winners announced at the Roundup.

RESULTS OF STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS WORKSHOPS

Angus Australia’s Armidale office will be closed Friday December 11 for a staff training day. The office will also be closed from Friday 25th December and re-open on Monday 4th January. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

MANAGING GENETIC ABNORMALITIES
What causes genetic abnormalities in cattle? And why do they seem to be occurring with greater frequency? During the 2009 Range Beef Cow Symposium in Casper, Wyo., University of Illinois molecular genetics specialist Jon Beever addressed those questions and talked about technologies available for managing genetic abnormalities such as arthrogryposis multiplex, neuropathic hydrocephalus, osteopetrosis and others. ANGUSPLUS TOPS $12 MILLION
Last Friday’s AngusPlus online sale resulted in 423 Angus steers and commercial females grossing $328,630 boosting the 2009 gross to just under $4 million and the total gross to $12.3 million since AngusPlus was launched by Angus Australia and Elders in August 2006. At the final AngusPlus sale for the year, cows and calves sold to $1025 and a line of 72 weaner steers weighing 353.8 kgs sold for $600 of 170 c/kg. The first AngusPlus sale in 2010 will be on Friday February 5 with a highlight on April 9 with the inaugural Landfall Genetics AngusPlus sale for Landfall clients.

A series of eight one day TakeStock workshops have recently been successfully completed across Australia, with 98 participants. This is impressive considering that there are just over 270 members currently eligible to receive a TakeStock report for their herd. More...
