Angus carcase Grand Champion at Melbourne

A 580kg liveweight Angus steer exhibited by Rutherglen High School and bred by Alpine Angus has taken out the coveted Grand Champion Carcase Award at the 2019 Royal Melbourne Show.

The carcase was first awarded the Champion Export carcase, before going on to win top honours. The grand champion carcase scored 89.31 points out of 100, including full points for saleable meat yield, measuring 10mm of fat and had an eye muscle area of 91sqcm.

The carcase had a Meat Standards Australia (MSA) Index of 56.81 and dressed at 56 per cent, with a carcase weight of 323kg.
