Ultrasound Scanners & Structural Scorers
Only Ultrasound Scanning and Structural Scoring data collected by Performance Beef Breeders Association accredited technicians are accepted for Breedplan analysis.
NOTE: THESE LISTS MAY CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE. It is of paramount importance to ensure the scanner or scorer is accredited on the day he/she is performing the scanning or scoring.
Real Time Ultrasound scans on live animals measure fat depth, eye muscle area and assist to predict intra-muscular fat%. These measurements provide assessments of carcase characteristics for a much greater number of animals than would be possible for direct measurements of carcases by progeny testing.
Scanning technicians who provide a scanning service have undertaken a training program and demonstrated a high degree of ability in an accreditation test before being allowed to measure cattle and the data to be submitted for analysis in Breedplan. Accreditation focuses on accuracy of scanning as well as repeatability.performing
Notes:
- - Scan and carcase data can only be processed for animals that are already registered with Angus Australia with a birth date and sire and dam.
- - It is recommended that you record a live weight taken on the SAME DAY as Ultrasonic Scan Measurements are taken.
- - Use only the accredited scanners listed on the link above.
- - Animals need to be between 300 and 800 days of age when scanned to be included in the analysis.
- - It is strongly recommended that animals have at least 5mm fat cover when scanned for intra-muscular fat %. This may mean that animals may need to be scanned at an older rather than younger age.
