I was lucky enough to be award the Angus Youth Beef 2012 scholarship early this year. I would like to thank Angus Australia for given me this opportunity to travel up to Rockhampton in May. To see what they had to offer at Beef 2012 and to see different operations was just an eye opening experience. I was lucky enough to attend the genetics conference and listen to speakers from Australia and America about the current and new technologies for genetics. Also attending the Goonoo Feedlot and seeing the different operations between the feedlot, cropping and their Brahman stud.

Beef 2012 was a fantastic way in meeting people with the same passion about the beef industry from Australia and Internationally. This was an amazing an unforgettable experience, and will be looking forward to the next Beef Australia in a few years’ time. This was an experience that I would recommend to everyone to be a part in future years.

I attended Rockhampton Beef week from the 6th til the 11th of May 2012. In this time I saw many amazing trade displays, helped out with Angus Judging, worked on the Angus Australia stand, attended two seminars and met friends and contacts I will have for life.

The trade displays featured at Rockhampton are a must see for anyone, the stand out for me where the stud displays, so much work and effort goes into these to promote the stud stock each breed has to offer. Helping with the Angus judging on the Tuesday was an experience for me as I had never marshaled before, however not a lot of marshaling was needed as all studs turned up on time with cattle prepped and ready to go! Along with Rachael and Kate, I worked on the Angus Australia stand with Sonya, Peter, Ken and Carl. This in itself was an experience as I got to listen in and be involved in some very interesting and informing conversations. I attended a Succession Planning seminar and The Milk Tooth Muster (a must for any young cattle person). These were very informing and the speakers at the Milk Tooth Muster were very inspirational.

The friends you meet and contacts you gain from everywhere over Australia and the world is amazing, everyone comes to Beef at Rockhampton. This is a scholarship I would recommend to anyone who wants an opportunity of a life time! I’d like to thank the Angus Australia Team for making it such a great time and also Kate Fairlie and Rachael Wheeler for making the week a lot of fun.
