Angus & Angus cross success at Singleton Prime Stock Competition

Angus and Angus cross cattle had some solid performances at the Singleton Prime Stock Competition, taking out Champion and Reserve Champion awards across all categories on the hoof and on the hook.

A 415kg Angus steer exhibited by Pentire Angus took out the Reserve Champion pasture feed steer or heifer on the hoof. This same steer went on to win the title of Champion Pasture fed steer or heifer carcase with a score of 90.129, to be the second highest scoring carcase in the competition and the highest scoring Angus carcase.

The steer has a hot score carcase weight of 212kg, rump fat of 8mm, rib fat of 6mm and an EMA of 83sqcm.

Pentire Angus also took out the Reserve Champion pasture fed steer or heifer carcase with a 410kg liveweight Angus steer. The carcase scored 89.945 points with a hot score carcase weight of 215kg, rump fat of 7mm, rib fat of 6mm and an EMA of 81sqcm. This carcase went on to win an MSA eating quality award for the pasture fed section.

Pentire Angus took out a second MSA eating quality award with an Angus heifer in the open fed heifer section.

In section 2, heifer unled, a 392kg Angus cross heifer exhibited by Neil Nelson was crowned the Champion heifer on the hoof. This heifer confirmed the judges’ faith in her when she took out the double and also won Champion heifer carcase.

The heifer scored 86.492, with a hot score carcase weight of 217kg, rump fat of 9mm, rib fat of 6mm and an EMA of 82sqcm.

A 453kg Angus cross Limousin steer won Champion steer on the hoof for section 1, single steer unled.

An Angus exhibit, presented by St Catherine’s College won Reserve Champion school led steer or heifer carcase after placing 2nd in her class on the hoof. The 467kg liveweight heifer scored 89.994 points with, a hot score carcase weight of 244kg, rump fat of 12mm, a rib fat of 5mm and an EMA of 81sqcm.

At the end of the competition, Pentire Angus was awarded the Allan Ball Memorial Trophy for overall Champion Exhibitor for 2015.
