Cattle numbers were up 1,200 head on last week in Friday’s AuctionsPlus Eastern States sale 11 Mar, with steers making up almost half of the numbers across all sales while breeder numbers contracted.
Feedlot buyers were very active while restockers were buying more cautiously on the back of dry conditions.
Prices were generally softer, though breeder prices were mostly steady
Highlights of this sale were Angus cross weaner steers weighing 254kg making 375c/kg at Walcha, Angus heifers at Walget weighing 222kg making $880 (397c/kg) and Angus heifers in Victoria weighing 151kg making $665 (434c/kg).
PTIC first-calf heifers market toppers were a lot of Angus cross heifers in Victoria.
Angus cross cows also topped the market portion for young cows making $1650.
