Angus AuctionsPlus Report 12 Feb

February 17, 2016 10:11 am

Cattle numbers retracted slightly in Friday’s AuctionsPlus Eastern States sale 12 Feb.

Once again, heifers were in large supply, making up nearly 50% of the sale, with demand by restockers matching this supply as interest grows for replacement breeders.

Stock were on the move this week with Angus steers from Rutherglen, VIC making the 1,300km journey up to Wandoan, QLD and more Angus steers travelling an even greater distance of 1,800km from

Glenthompson, VIC to Roma, QLD.

Heavy 489kg Angus yearling steers out of Goondiwindi, QLD sold for an impressive $1,580 (323c/kg).

Angus weaner steers from south west Victoria, weighing 215kg made$895 (415c/kg).

Heavy 404kg Angus heifers from Tenterfield, NSW made$1295 (320c/kg) and a small line of Angus cross feeder heifers sold for $1110 (389c/kg).

There were fewer numbers of PTIC females this week with a reasonable number of lots passed in with sellers possibly too keen to hold onto last week’s prices.

Angus females topped all the PTIC & cow and calf categories this week as buyers continue their quest for quality Angus replacement females.

First calf heifers averaged $1,327 with Angus heifers from Mudgee, NSW, making $2,110.

A line of 3 to 6 year old Angus breeders PTIC to Angus sires made $2,000.

In cow and calf sales, Angus cows from Kingstown, NSW with calves at foot sold for the top price of $2,280.

3 to 4 year old Angus cows from Exeter NSW had strong buyer demand and took out the top price for the sale, selling for a noteworthy $2,680.
