Angus AuctionsPlus Report 3 June

June 14, 2016 11:13 am

There was plenty of movement in the AuctionPlus Eastern States cattle sale 3 June, with rain in parts of QLD and an impending rain event in NSW resulting in an 81% clearance at auction for the 7,854 head on offer.

There was activity from all classes of buyers, with good numbers of backgrounder and feeder cattle on offer, restockers fought it out with processors for cows and live exporters bid fiercely for cattle out of the north.

Restockers spurred on by rain drove prices up for younger lighter cattle today, while the heavier feeder cattle prices tended to ease. Highlights included Angus steers at Glen Innes weighing 293kg selling for $1045 (357c/kg).

Angus heifers with their first calf at foot in the southern offering sold to a top of $2200 for 24-26 month old females.

The top price of $1800 for yearling PTIC heifers was paid for a run of 3 year old Angus cows in calf to Angus bulls out of western Victoria.
