Angus Australia will once again be hosting a series of Regional Forums around Australia for Angus cattle enthusiasts and Angus Australia members between October 3rd and October 26th, 2018.
The focus of the 2018 Regional Forums is a “Journey to Genetic Improvement” and will provide participants with a series of informative presentations on the latest developments and services offered by Angus Australia, highlighting how they can be applied to both the seedstock and commercial sector.
The Regional Forums will take place in most states and are open to anyone with an interest in Angus cattle and those who would like to have the opportunity to catch up with Angus Australia staff and fellow Angus beef producers.
The presentations will cover various topics regarding the Angus Australia initiatives available to Angus producers. The topics include genomic technologies: what can genomic testing deliver to your herd; angus.tech showcase: what has changed; what’s coming next for Angus breeders: future programs and developments at Angus Australia; what’s being achieved with the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program and case studies on the value of genomic testing.
The event will also have an optional tutorial session for anyone who has specific questions regarding the use of Angus Australia’s website tools, such as the Angus Database Search and the AngusSELECT genetic selection tools. Angus Australia encourages attendees who would like to utilise this session to bring their laptop or iPad to use during the session.
Angus Australia Breed Development and Extension Manager Andrew Byrne expressed that the Regional Forums provide a great opportunity for Angus Australia members and Angus enthusiasts to hear from the Angus Australia team about recent developments to the genetic technologies that are available to them.
“The Regional Forums has allowed us in the past to converse with Angus producers and provide assistance at a personal level,” Mr Byrne said. “It allows us to inform our members of the latest developments but also allows us to hear first-hand feedback from seedstock and commercial producers in regard to their experiences using the genetic tools available to them.”
Breed Development Officer Matthew Reynolds believes that having the opportunity to meet with the Angus producers and keeping them informed with the latest developments and services offered by Angus Australia is imperative to the continued development of the breed.
“Ensuring we continue to give this support and learning opportunities to our members and Angus producers is integral to continuing to identify where developments need to be made, as the producers are the ones who are harnessing this technology and information,” Mr Reynolds said.
The Regional Forums will take place in Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
