It has been an exceptional year for Angus and Angus influenced cattle across Australia and as we draw closer to the end of the year, it is very timely to reflect on the top stories coming out of Angus Australia.

Angus Australia is pleased to announce the launch of a new “Angus Database Search” Facility 

Developed by Angus Australia’s software development team, the new database search facility is similar to the Animal and EBV Enquiry facilities that have been available on the Angus Australia website for some time, but has been re-developed to be a more modern and intuitive facility with a range of valuable new features.

Variation in Angus Carcase Value 

$619 per carcase –  This was the difference revealed in a recent analysis of carcase data collected in the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program (ASBP) when comparing carcase values, on a progeny average basis, between the highest and lowest ranked sires. On an individual carcase basis, the difference between the highest and lowest valued carcase was $2,076.

The Angus Sire Benchmarking Program (ASBP) has received outstanding response from Angus Australia members through the entry of 33 new Australian sires, coming from 70 nominations, to produce the Cohort 8 calves.

On a day when industry records tumbled at the Millah Murrah Female Sale, there was one star of the show that set a new all-breeds auction record when she was knocked down by auctioneer Paul Dooley for $190,000.

2017 Sydney Show Results 

More than 150 entries from 36 exhibitors across the country converged on the Sydney Royal Easter show to compete in the Angus judging. Pine Creek took out Best Exhibit honours with Senior and Grand Champion Female, PC Miss E99 Foreman J181, shown with a six-week-old bull calf. The cow edged out the Junior and Grand Champipn Bull, 858kg Carabar Docklands L36 for the title.

Lessons from the ASBP – EBVs ARE NO BULL 

The Angus Sire Benchmarking Program (ASBP) has demonstrated that there is great potential to achieve genetic improvement in Angus breeding programs by utilising selections tools, such as BREEDPLAN Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) and Selection Indexes.
