The Angus Australia Board met in Sydney on the 25-26th July, 2019.

The Board passed the following resolutions:

  • Change of Animal Name.  Regulation 6.18 be amended to:

    The name of an animal shall not be changed after registration:
    (a) Without the prior approval of the Society or;
    (b) Without the prior approval of both the breeder(s) and current owner(s); or
    (c) If the animal has progeny recorded or owned by another member.

  • Genetic conditions.  Regulation 6.21 be amended to:

    The following genetic conditions are monitored by the Society:
    * Alpha Mannosidosis (MA)
    * Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM)
    * Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA)
    * Developmental Duplication (DD)
    * Dwarfism (DW)
    * Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH)
    * Oculocutaneous Hypopigmentation (OH)
    * Osteopetrosis (OS)

  • Drought affected 2yo heifers.  Where members declare that due to the impact of drought they have had to forgo the joining of their full cohort of yearling heifers to calve at 2yo, these heifers can be fated as 2yo without inventory fees applicable and subsequently returned to the herd inventory for no reinstatement fee as 3yo heifers. Angus Australia will need clarification that the affected member was in an officially drought declared area at the time of joining.
  • State Committees. The Board discussed feedback obtained from some State Committees that expressed concern about their ongoing role and lack of engagement with members in their state.  It was resolved that State Committee Chairs would be invited to a workshop would be conducted at the November Board meeting to explore future strategies for State Committees.

The Board reviewed the role and structure of the various animal recording registers maintained by Angus Australia and the potential future changes required to accommodate technology developments.

The next Board meeting will be conducted on the 14th September 2019 at Gingin, WA.
