Angus Australia was saddened to hear of the passing of breed stalwart Mr Bill Mayne from Texas Angus, Warialda NSW. Bill had been a member of Angus Australia since 1955 and a strong advocate of performance based breeding.
The Board, staff and general Angus community extend their condolences to the Mayne family.
“Bill devoted his whole life to breeding stud Angus cattle and achieved many accolades in his life. He worked alongside his father Walter who also was a well-known figure in the Australian Angus seed stock industry.
Bill was passionate in showing Angus cattle and was rewarded for his efforts by wining many Grand Champions at Brisbane and Sydney Royal Shows including the highly competitive Angus World Forum feature in 1959.
His success in the show ring gave him Judging roles at many Royal and country shows around Australia. He was recognised by Angus Australia for his 50 year service to the breed. Like his father Walter, Bill served on the board for QLD State Committee in promoting the Angus breed in QLD for many years.
Bill worked alongside his son Ben every day for well over 20 years. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and clients.
Ben and Wendy Mayne along with Bill’s wife, Judy, will hold a celebration of Bill’s life when COVID 19 regulations are eased and invite anyone who would like to farewell Bill at the Texas Angus Woolshed”.
