Did you miss Angus CONNECT – Autumn 2022?

Angus Australia recently played host to presentations by Angus Australia staff, scientists from Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO and other guests who explored the ever-evolving space of genomic solutions for commercial production, as well as showcasing the launch of the second generation of Angus HeiferSELECT.

Angus CONNECT – Autumn 2022 was an opportunity for producers with an interest in breeding Angus cattle to gain insight to practical information sessions about Angus HeiferSELECT and developments in genomic technology for commercial operations, which will be valuable to both existing users as well as producers looking to utilise the technology.

The topics covered included:

Official Launch of Angus HeiferSELECT Generation II

The new generation of Angus HeiferSELECT is now available as a genetic selection tool for commercial producers. Christian Duff (General Manager of Genetic Improvement) provided insight into the enhancements made to the product that will benefit the selection of Angus heifers in commercial herds.

The Science Behind Select

Angus HeiferSELECT provides precision to heifer selection through genomic based predictions, but how does it work? The CSIRO team takes producers through the details as to the science powering this on-farm tool.

Case Study – Producers using Heifer Select

Fraser James, “Guy Fawkes Station”, Ebor gives a realistic and practical account of how Angus HeiferSELECT is utilised in his operation, why he chooses to use Angus HeiferSELECT and his experience with it so far.

Validation – the proof in the pudding

How can we be sure that Angus HeiferSELECT works? This is the question answered by the team at CSIRO as they talk through the validation behind Angus HeiferSELECT, ensuring that the research underpinning it translates into “in the paddock” results.

New Developments in the Commercial Genomics Space

A peek over the horizon at further enhancements to Angus HeiferSELECT and other genomic technology currently being developed for the commercial beef production space.
