New Online DNA Testing Platform Set to Streamline Member Experience
As the beef industry continues to evolve through technology, data and genomics, the decisions producers make around genetic information are becoming increasingly important in shaping herd performance, productivity and long-term profitability.
Today, Angus Australia takes an important step forward with the introduction of DNA Direct (powered by Helical), a new online DNA ordering and management platform designed to simplify and streamline the DNA testing process for members.
Launching initially with Weatherbys testing services, DNA Direct will progressively expand to also incorporate Neogen and Zoetis testing, creating a more connected and efficient member experience across multiple providers.
Importantly, DNA Direct is not a new DNA provider itself. Rather, it is a new member-facing online platform that will allow Angus Australia members to manage DNA testing requests more efficiently through a centralised digital system.
Built for the future of livestock genetics
Powered by the globally recognised Helical platform, DNA Direct has been developed specifically for the modern genomics era.
The platform has been designed to support increasingly complex genetic data while remaining practical and intuitive for everyday use. By bringing DNA ordering, sample tracking and future test management functionality into a single environment, DNA Direct represents an important step toward a more streamlined “one stop shop” experience for Angus Australia members.
Initially, members will be able to access DNA Direct directly through angus.tech via the existing DNA services area.
Faster, simpler and more efficient
The key benefit of DNA Direct is improved efficiency.
Historically, DNA ordering and management processes have often involved multiple systems, paperwork and provider-specific workflows. DNA Direct has been developed to reduce complexity and provide members with a more consistent and user-friendly experience.
From placing DNA test requests through to managing historical testing activity and future add-on services, the system is designed to make the process simpler and more accessible.
Over time, additional functionality is expected to include expanded DNA management capability, easier access to testing history and enhanced integration opportunities to support registration and parent verification workflows.
Importantly, DNA Direct will enable DNA samples to move more directly through the testing process with participating laboratories, reducing handling and administrative touchpoints through Angus Australia. This streamlined workflow is expected to improve efficiency and support faster turnaround times for members while delivering a more connected and user friendly testing experience.
Supporting informed decisions
As Angus Australia continues to invest in genetics, genomics and commercial relevance, tools such as DNA Direct play an important role in helping members make informed breeding and management decisions.
Whether producers are focused on parent verification, genomic selection, commercial performance or long-term herd improvement, timely access to reliable DNA testing services is increasingly becoming part of the decision-making process that shapes performance.
The introduction of DNA Direct reflects Angus Australia’s ongoing commitment to improving member services while building systems that support the future of Angus genetics in Australia.
What members can expect next
The initial launch of DNA Direct and Weatherbys testing services will commence following the Angus Australia AGM, with the additional providers expected to be progressively introduced.
To support the rollout, Angus Australia has released a series of practical education videos and member resources demonstrating how to use the platform and navigate the new system.
Members are encouraged to keep an eye on The Angus Weekly, Angus Australia social channels and angus.tech for further updates as DNA Direct continues to roll out.
