Angus Australia offers a variety of genetic evaluation services to its members and their registered Angus and Angus influenced animals. Spanning from the elite internal genetic evaluation, Angus GenetiQ, TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation (TACE), World Angus Evaluation (WAE), UltraSELECT, through to the commercial genomic decision support tools Angus HeiferSELECT and Angus SteerSELECT.  

Angus GenetiQ 

Angus GenetiQ is Angus Australia’s next-generation genetic evaluation platform to deliver greater accuracy, faster evaluations and long-term capability for the Angus breed. Built on Angus Australia’s extensive genotype and performance database, it uses modern analytical models and improved processing workflows to support expanded data capture, stronger genomic integration and more frequent evaluation cycles. Angus GenetiQ provides a breed-specific foundation for current and future tools, supporting reliable genetic progress, data integrity and confident decision making for members. 

TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation 

The TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation (TACE) is a joint genetic evaluation with Angus New Zealand, primarily conducted by BreedPLAN via ABRI. Using Genomic Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (GBLUP) technology, BreedPLAN incorporates pedigree, performance and genomic information from the Angus Australia and Angus New Zealand databases, along with selected data from the American and Canadian Angus Associations. BreedPLAN produces Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) for a range of economically important production traits, including growth, carcase and fertility. For Angus Australia’s animal’s TACE combines BreedPLAN EBVs with maternal composition traits (Mature Cow Height & Mature Body Condition) evaluated by Angus GenetiQ and structural traits (Clawset, Foot angle and Leg angle) analysed by Angus Genetics Incorporated (AGI).  

World Angus Evaluation 

The World Angus Evaluation (WAE) is a globally focussed genetic analysis of Angus cattle, providing breeders with the ability to directly compare sires. The WAE combines data sources (phenotypes, genotypes and pedigree) from the American Angus Association®, Canadian Angus Association and Angus Australia with the results being Expected Progeny Differences (EPD), which are similar to Estimated Breeding Values (EBV), for a specific list of traits on Angus sires. 

The WAE is facilitated by Angus Genetics Incorporated (AGI), which is a subsidiary of the American Angus Association (AAA). 

UltraSELECT 

UltraSELECT is a genetic evaluation available to Angus Australia members breeding UltraBlack and Brangus animals, providing the opportunity for improved selection decisions and increased international trade of genetics. The collaborative genetic evaluation with International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) is available to animals registered in the Angus Australia Multibreed Register (MBR) with a breed composition of Brahman and Angus (predominantly UltraBlacks but including Brangus animals). The evaluation produces estimated breeding values (EBVs) for a specific list of traits.   

Angus HeiferSELECT 

Angus HeiferSELECT is a genomic decision-support tool powered by Angus GenetiQ, Angus Australia’s genetic evaluation system, providing producers with genomic predictions to guide heifer selection and breeding decisions. 

Angus SteerSELECT 

Angus SteerSELECT is a genomic decision-support tool, also powered by Angus GenetiQ, helping producers rank steers on genetic merit and make informed management and marketing decisions.

What is a Genetic Evaluation? 

A Genetic Evaluation is the analysis in which the genetic merit of animals are estimated for key production traits (e.g. calving ease, growth, fertility, carcase, efficiency etc.) using recorded pedigree, performance data and genomic information.

What can I expect from the Genetic Evaluation Service? 

By participating in Angus Australia’s Genetic Evaluation Services, you will:  

• Have access to the appropriate Angus Australia genetic evaluation for your animals from Angus GenetiQ, TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation, World Angus Evaluation, UltraSELECT, through to the commercial genomic decision support tools Angus HeiferSELECT and Angus SteerSELECT. 

• Have the ability to submit performance records on your animals, increasing the accuracy of the EBVs analysed and allowing for more informed selection decisions. 

•  Have the ability to conduct genomic testing on your animals, increasing the accuracy of the EBVs produced and allowing for more informed selection decisions. 

• Access other genetic tools that assist in selection and genetic progress, such as MateSel, Mating Predictor and Internet Solutions EBV-related functions in angus.tech.
