Angus Australia to showcase genetic innovation and industry leadership at Cattle Connect 2026

Angus Australia will be represented by Chief Operating Officer Carel Teseling and Research & Development Specialist Dr Liam Mowbray at Cattle Connect 2026, contributing to discussions on genetic innovation, industry leadership and the future of Australian beef production.

Hosted by Cattle Australia at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga on 22–23 October, the event will bring together producers, researchers and industry leaders under the theme Shaping Tomorrow: Innovation. Leadership. Action.

Genetic innovation shaping the next decade.

Carel Teseling will join industry leaders for the panel discussion “What’s Driving the Next Decade?” on Friday 23 October, from 2.00pm to 2.30pm at Joyes Hall.

The discussion will explore global demand, consumer trends, sustainability and product credentials, considering how the Australian beef industry can respond to changing expectations and maintain its competitive position.

Carel will bring Angus Australia’s perspective on genetic improvement and innovation, including the opportunities presented by Angus GenetiQ, the organisation’s next-generation genetic evaluation platform.

Developed specifically for the Angus breed, Angus GenetiQ draws on extensive pedigree, performance and genomic data to deliver Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) that support informed breeding decisions and continued genetic progress.

Together with commercial genomic selection tools including Angus HeiferSELECT and Angus SteerSELECT, the platform demonstrates Angus Australia’s commitment to connecting genetic innovation with practical outcomes for Australian beef producers.

Supporting the next generation of industry leadership

Angus Australia’s Research & Development Specialist, Dr Liam Mowbray, will also feature in the Cattle Connect program at the Clipex Farm Tour 2 – Charles Sturt Feedlot, Thursday 22 October 11am – 12pm.  Angus Australia and Charles Sturt University teaming up to share results from ongoing research at the Charles Sturt University Feedlot, covering both feedlot performance trials and genetic trials.

As a cattle veterinarian, Angus breeder and research specialist, Liam brings a combination of practical production experience and expertise in genetic improvement to the industry.

His work with Angus Australia includes advancing research initiatives and supporting the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program, which contributes valuable performance and genomic information to the ongoing development of genetic evaluation tools.

Liam is also a graduate of Cattle Australia’s 2025–26 National Beef Leaders program, an initiative designed to develop emerging industry advocates and strengthen leadership across Australia’s beef sector.

His involvement in Cattle Connect reflects Angus Australia’s commitment to supporting both the scientific advancement of the breed and the development of people who will help shape the industry’s future.

Connecting innovation with industry opportunity

Through the involvement of Carel and Liam, Angus Australia will contribute perspectives spanning genetic innovation, practical cattle production, research and industry leadership.

Their participation provides an opportunity to showcase the ongoing investment in genetic improvement and the people and programs helping Australian beef producers respond to future opportunities.
