Angus shines across breed and interbreed competition at Melbourne Royal
Angus cattle made their presence felt at the 2026 Melbourne Royal, with a strong showing in the breed ring followed by an impressive run of results against the best cattle from across the breeds in the Beef Interbreed competition.
From Supreme Angus Champion Myers Lady Louise, exhibited by Scott Myers and Samantha Beresford, through to major interbreed honours for Nampara Pastoral Company, Moorunga Angus and Grylls Cattle Co, Angus exhibitors enjoyed success across female and bull championships, group classes and the broader Melbourne Royal program.
The strength of the Angus showing was particularly evident when the breed champions progressed to the interbreed ring. Angus representatives claimed Supreme Junior Champion Beef Breed Bull, Reserve Supreme Junior Champion Beef Breed Bull and Supreme Senior Champion Beef Breed Bull, along with Reserve Supreme Calf Champion Beef Breed Heifer honours.
Back in the Angus ring, judge Damon Englund assessed a quality line-up, with the experienced Myers Lady Louise ultimately claiming the breed’s highest honour.
The seven-year-old female progressed from Senior Champion Cow to Grand Champion Female before being selected as Supreme Angus Champion.
Born in September 2019, Myers Lady Louise is by HA Cowboy Up and out of Myanga Lady Louise.
The result continued an impressive Melbourne Royal record for Lady Louise, who was also Supreme Angus Champion in 2025 before going on to claim Interbreed Supreme Senior Champion Cow and Supreme Beef Breed Exhibit.
Moorunga Pacific leads the bulls
In the bull judging, Moorunga Pacific V029 claimed Senior Champion Bull before going on to be named Grand Champion Angus Bull for John Matthies of Moorunga Angus.
The March 2024-born bull is by Sterling Pacific 904 and out of Texas Pride L600.
Pacific then carried his success into the Beef Interbreed competition, where he was named Bickleys Transport Supreme Senior Champion Beef Breed Bull, topping the senior bull champions from across the breeds.
