Entries closing soon for Angus for Every System Feedlot & Carcase Trial
Australian beef producers have until 31 July 2026 to enter the Angus for Every System Feedlot & Carcase Trial, with teams of Angus and Angus-influenced steers invited to benchmark their performance in one of the most practical commercial trials on the 2026 calendar.
Proudly hosted by Teys Australia at the Condamine Feedlot and powered by Optiweigh along with our animal health and genotyping partner Zoetis, the trial has been designed to give producers a clear, objective picture of how their cattle perform across feedlot, carcase and eating quality traits.
Open to teams of 10 steers, the trial includes classes for 100% Angus, 75% Angus and 50% Angus content, giving producers from a range of production systems the opportunity to put their cattle to the test in a commercial feedlot environment.
Angus Australia Business Development Executive, Jake Bourne, said the trial provides producers with more than competition results.
“This trial is about giving producers information they can actually use,” Jake said.
“Participants will be able to follow how their cattle are performing throughout the feeding period, then receive detailed feedback after processing. It gives them the opportunity to look at feedlot performance, carcase quality and eating quality as part of the one picture.”
Cattle will be fed for approximately 120 days at Teys Condamine Feedlot, with delivery scheduled for 15 September 2026 and induction to take place on 16 September 2026. Processing is scheduled for mid-January 2027, with HGP-treated cattle to be processed first and non-HGP cattle to follow approximately one week later.
All cattle entered in the trial will also be genomic tested using SteerSELECT, providing predicted trait information and Angus breed content data to help producers validate breeding decisions and identify opportunities for future herd improvement.
“Commercial producers are increasingly looking for practical ways to connect genetics, performance and market outcomes,” Jake said.
“SteerSELECT adds another layer of information, helping producers better understand the genetics behind their cattle and how those genetics are performing in a real-world feedlot and carcase environment.”
Throughout the trial, producers will receive regular performance updates, with daily weight gain data available through angus.tech. Following processing, participants will receive detailed carcase feedback, including MSA grading and eating quality results.
Awards will recognise top-performing teams across feedlot performance, carcase quality and eating quality within the relevant Angus content classes.
Entrants will also receive complimentary entry of one team of three head into the 2027 AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition at Beef Australia 2027 in Rockhampton.
