Angus Australia and Eurofins Weatherbys launch $15,000 international Fellowship
Angus Australia members have the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime tour to Ireland and Scotland to meet some of the most influential people in cattle genomics technologies.
The Eurofins Angus Fellowship is a joint initiative by Eurofins Weatherbys and Angus Australia to offer one member this unique international professional development experience valued at more than $15,000.
The Fellowship is open to any Angus Australia members who order a DNA test or bundle from Eurofins Weatherbys through DNA Direct, Angus Australia’s new online DNA testing platform.
With each order, entrants just need to answer one simple question to put themselves in the running to be the inaugural Eurofins Angus Fellow and book their way to Ireland and Scotland in June 2027.
The specially curated trip will include visits to some of most significant institutions in the genomics field and some of the most celebrated sites in the history of the Angus breed.
Angus Australia Chief Executive Officer, Scott Wright, said the Fellowship will also give the inaugural Fellow the opportunity to see first-hand where cattle breeding and genomic technology are heading internationally.
“Genomics is playing an increasingly important role in the decisions Angus breeders make, from parentage verification and genetic condition testing, through to improving the accuracy of the information available for selection,” Scott said.
“This Fellowship is the chance to meet the people making technological advancements at a global level and put them in touch with those at the forefront of the industry.
“It will also take them to home of Aberdeen Angus, the birthplace of our breed, and connect the extraordinary history of Angus cattle to the innovation that is helping breeders drive genetic progress today.”
Eurofins Weatherbys Business Development Manager ANZ, Michael-John Barry, said the Fellowship was designed to be an unforgettable experience.
“This learning experience ticks all the boxes for anyone who is interested in the heritage and the direction of the iconic Angus breed,” Michael-John said.
“The Fellowship recipient will visit the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society in Perth, Scotland; tour some of the most acclaimed Angus studs in the country; and, spend a day at the famous Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.
“They will also trip through Ireland to see the National Bull Performance Centre and meet with the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation, which is conducting the largest bovine genotyping program in the world.
“It’s an outstanding program that is sure to deliver insights to your Angus operation and create lifelong memories as well.”
The Eurofins Angus Fellowship builds on the partnership between Angus Australia and Eurofins Weatherbys that began with the launch of a trio of genomic tools – Angus Legacy, Verified Angus and neXtPredict Angus – and was deepened with the launch of DNA Direct in May 2026.
Eurofins Weatherbys is the first provider to the platform, which allows Angus Australia members to order genomic testing simply and quickly online, streamlining the entire process and delivering results sooner. Users only pay for the test results they need, but have the flexibility to upgrade to more results at a later date if their needs change, all without having to resubmit a sample. It is as easy as selecting the available additional traits that you want an animal or group of animals upgraded to and then submitting the request.
