Angus Australia has announced its support for a team to attend and compete in the Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association (ICMJ) premier northern event, which will take place at Central Queensland University (CQU) and Teys Rockhampton from 9 to 12 April 2026.

This initiative reflects Angus Australia’s commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders through hands-on learning, industry insights, and critical networking opportunities. The program is designed to provide future professionals with exposure to practical skills and sector knowledge that will help shape their careers.

The Northern ICMJ event will feature an integrated series of workshops, practical classes, seminars, and a meat judging competition, culminating in a specialist careers expo for students and young professionals. Over more than three decades, ICMJ has played a defining role in preparing motivated graduates for diverse career outcomes, supported by an alumni network of over 2,000 participants from 21 institutions since 1990. The program cultivates expertise in carcase evaluation, market specifications, and the latest advances in beef and red meat supply chains.

ICMJ continues to grow in relevance and impact, building the industry’s future workforce and creating pathways into roles across the red meat supply chain, including production, processing, finance, government, and international marketing.

Events like the Northern ICMJ equip participants with practical skills and deep insights into the northern beef industry while fostering connections that often shape long-term careers.

With four places available in the 2026 team, successful applicants will gain targeted knowledge of the northern beef supply chain, practical exposure to carcass characteristics, emerging technologies, and comprehensive networking with sector leaders.

Angus Australia will cover entry fees for successful applicants to attend the ICMJ event, along with accommodation and meal expenses during the event. Participants will be responsible for their travel costs to and from Rockhampton.

Graduates of ICMJ programs have gone on to secure roles across leading organisations including Meat and Livestock Australia, Teys Australia, NH Foods, Fletchers International, Elders, Nutrien, JBS Australia, Rangers Valley Feedlot, Smithfield Feedlot, Australian Country Choice, NAB, Australian Agricultural Company, Rivalea Australia, Consolidated Pastoral Company, the Australian Angus Society, government departments, Woolworths, Rabobank, and Bindaree Food Group.

Eligibility requires applicants to be members of Angus Australia, aged over 18, and available during the event dates. Proof of Q Fever vaccination status is also necessary. Applications involve answering a set of short questions, with shortlisted candidates participating in interviews. All successful participants will be required to submit a written account of their experience to the Angus Australia Board following the event.
