Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences Delegation visits Angus Australia HQ

Earlier this week, Angus Australia CEO Scott Wright and Company Secretary Kathryn Duddy welcomed a group of three researchers from the Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences (JAAS) in Gongzhuling, Jilin, China to the Angus Australia office in Armidale.

Scott said the visit was a great opportunity to share knowledge and strengthen international ties. “The JAAS is renowned for animal husbandry innovations and is actively involved in international cooperations and technology exchange. The delegation was very keen to better understand Angus production and breeding here in Australia.

This visit follows Scott’s meeting with the Vice Governor of Jilin Province earlier this year, continuing discussions around genetics, breeding and the premium beef markets where Angus cattle play a leading role.  “It’s encouraging to see this level of interest in how Angus breeders and our members continue to drive quality, innovation and performance, both in Australia and in the cattle that reach global markets,” Scott said.

The delegation visited Armidale as part of a wider industry tour in Australia. Scott noted that the meeting offered a valuable two-way exchange of ideas.

“Angus members have sent significant numbers of live Angus heifers to China over the past decade, peaking in 2019 with 45,000 head.  It’s an important market for both live exports and premium beef, and opportunities like this help us build stronger understanding and long-term connections.”

With reports in Beef Central this week indicating the global beef trade is expected to expand over the next five years, even amid market volatility, Scott said collaboration and open communication remain essential.  “Our goal as a breed society is to help Angus cattle producers navigate these changes and position themselves for success in a dynamic global market.”
