Australian World Angus Youth Team Triumphs in Northern ICMJ Warm-Up Ahead of Competition Debut

On the 9th to the 12th of April the two Angus Australia World Angus Youth Competition teams, consisting of Georgie Laurie, Lilli Stewart, Micquella Grima, Jake Turner, Charlie Salter, Matilda Salter, Chloe Plowman and Ben Duddy all travelled to Rockhampton to participate in the ICMJ Northern Conference, which includes a meat judging competition. This was to make up part of the training the Australian Youth teams have undergone in preparation for the Zoetis World Angus Youth Competition later this month.
The Northern ICMJ conference brings together both industry and university participation, with this year being the largest number of delegates in attendance and the first time there were more industry participants than university.
As coach, Kate Schoen was very pleased to report that on debut, using the top 4 scores from Georgie Laurie, Micquella Grima, Jake Turner and Charlie Salter, the Angus Australia team was awarded The Northern Conference Shield, for the Champion Industry ICMJ Team – sponsored by AMPC. An outstanding achievement that outlines the commitment and dedication that the youth are applying, with only two of the team members having previous meat judging experience adding to the accolade.
“The respect and dedication each of the participants have shown to each other, the breed and the industry is outstanding, and we are fortunate to have such outstanding young people representing us at the World Angus Forum,” said Kate.
Other results include team member Charlie Salter, at his first time participating in meat judging taking out the runner up in beef carcasses and overall points individually.
