MateSel launching 31 July – New informative Mating Tool now available to Angus Australia members
Angus Australia is pleased to announce the official launch of MateSel, a powerful new mating decision support tool, available to members within the angus.tech platform from Thursday 31st July 2025.
What is MateSel?
MateSel (Mate Selection), developed by Brian and Sandy Kinghorn, is the leading genetic optimisation tool designed to enhance breeding efficiency, balance genetic diversity, and drive long-term sustainable genetic gain. It considers your breeding objectives, genetic merit (via EBVs), and inbreeding levels to generate a tailored mating plan that delivers the best possible genetic outcomes for your herd.
MateSel puts you in the driver’s seat. Through an interactive graphical interface, you guide the program towards the solutions that suit your herd. If the initial plan doesn’t align with your vision, you can adjust the parameters — “move the goalposts”—and MateSel will generate a new plan that reflects this updated direction. Ultimately, you make the decisions—not the program—but MateSel does the hard work behind the scenes.
What can you use it for?
MateSel uses advanced algorithms to scan all potential sire-dam combinations and determine which matings offer the most genetic benefit while maintain genetic diversity —supporting sustainable genetic improvement over the long term.
Integration with angus.tech
MateSel is now fully integrated into the angus.tech platform, making it easier than ever to get started. You can seamlessly pull in data from your active inventory for Spring or Autumn, as well as current sale bulls and semen sires listed through SemenSELECT and SaleSELECT.
This integration allows you to use MateSel not only to guide your joining plans—but also to help inform sale and semen purchasing decisions for the 2025 Spring season, and beyond.
Free for the 2025 Spring Mating Season
To support members in exploring this innovative tool, MateSel is free to use for the upcoming 2025 spring mating season. From 2026, it will be offered as a fee-for-service product.
This is a valuable opportunity to try MateSel and see how this technology can enhance your herd’s genetic progress—whether you’re targeting specific traits or seeking balanced, long-term improvement.
How to get started
From Thursday 31st July, MateSel will be available via the angus.tech website.
More information on how to submit your data and get started, will be available from Thursday 31st July on Angus Australia website.
